Derek Dietrich

Derek Dietrich starts for injured Martin Prado Monday

by Mike Maher | Tue, May 9th 8:29am EDT

Derek Dietrich started at third base and batted seventh on Monday night, as he is likely to see everyday duties at third base now that Martin Prado has been placed on the disabled list with a hamstring injury. Dietrich went 1-for-3 with a strikeout Monday, and he is now hitting .230 through his first 61 at-bats.

Fantasy Impact:

Dietrich doesn't have much value outside of deeper NL-only leagues, but he has been a serviceable option in such leagues in the past when given everyday playing time. His biggest value is positional eligibility, as he is eligible at first base, second base, and third base in most leagues, and he has had outfield eligibility in the past, as well. He does not hit lefties well, however, and will likely head to the bench often when the team faces a southpaw.
