Matt Harvey takes loss against Brewers on Friday night

by Nick Ritrivi | Fri, May 12th 11:31pm EDT

Matt Harvey, pitching for the first time since coming back from a suspension, looked rusty and labored through five innings against the Brewers in the Mets' 7-4 loss on Friday. After five innings, Harvey had allowed only two earned runs despite walking five and dodging trouble. Despite throwing 97 pitches and having nothing left, Terry Collins sent Harvey back out to pitch the bottom of the sixth inning. Predictably, Harvey gave up a hit and back-to-back homers without recording an out in the sixth. In his five plus innings of work, Harvey allowed five earned runs, seven hits and five walks. He did manage to strike out six and showed good velocity despite the labored outing.

Fantasy Impact:

Harvey owners were victimized by rust and a very poor managerial decision to send out Harvey for an additional inning. Harvey now has an unsightly 5.63 ERA on the season after 40 IP. He will next face the Diamondbacks in Arizona next week. Owners in more shallow leagues may be best served keeping Harvey on the bench until such time he starts to get himself back on track.
