Jacoby Ellsbury leaves game with concussion and stiff neck Wednesday

by Mike Maher | Wed, May 24th 9:43pm EDT

Yankees center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury left Wednesday night’s game against the Kansas City Royals with a concussion and sprained neck after banging his head into the center-field wall on the opening pitch of the game. He remained in center field for the remainder of the inning but did not come to bat in the bottom of the inning and was replaced. (Yankees PR Dept. on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact:

The fact that the Yankees are already calling this a concussion means that Ellsbury is headed to the seven-day concussion disabled list. He will be re-evaluated on Thursday, but owners should plan for him to miss at least the minimum seven days required by the concussion disabled list. Ellsbury is no longer an elite fantasy contributor at this point in his career, but he is still at least a decent provider of stolen bases and runs while not handicapping owners in other categories. Injuries have long been his bugaboo, so monitor his status moving forward.
