Justin Verlander shelled in loss

by Waleed Hawatky | Astros Correspondent | Fri, May 26th 1:07pm EDT

Justin Verlander lasted only 5 2/3 innings in Thursday's 7-6 loss to the Astros after giving up six runs on nine hits including three home runs while striking out four and walking three.

Fantasy Impact:

Ouch. Oddly enough, Verlander had been cruising along with three scoreless frames before imploding in the fourth giving up three home runs (two of which were two-run jacks) for a total of five runs. The Astros would tack another one on in the next inning knocking him out of the game. Verlander has struggled to keep the ball in the yard this year just as he did last year despite having appeared to have regained his dominant form when he compiled 254 strikeouts. This season, unfortunately, he is walking batters more than he ever has and giving up a lot of contact leading to a rough 4.87 ERA and 1.41 WHIP on the year. Verlander does get the light hitting Royals next, though.
