Jesse Chavez falters in latest start

by Kevin Black | Braves Correspondent | Sat, May 27th 2:14am EDT

Jesse Chavez was hit hard on Friday by the Miami Marlins, who tagged him for five earned runs on eight hits over 3 2/3 innings. Chavez walked two, struck out two, and gave up two home runs.

Fantasy Impact:

This start ballooned Chavez's ERA to over 5.00 on the year. Chavez had strung together a few serviceable starts but is far from a reliable fantasy asset. For season-long owners struggling to find pitching due to injuries or DFS players looking for a cheap alternative to higher priced starters, Chavez is still a decent option. Outside of this start, Chavez had shown an ability to work into the sixth inning for win potential in his previous outings along with a passable strikeout rate. Do not expect too much upside if you do use him as a starter, as he can be homer prone.
