Masahiro Tanaka

Masahiro Tanaka nearly flawless in defeat

by Chris Zolli | Sat, May 27th 9:25am EDT

Masahiro Tanaka allowed one run on five hits in 7 1/3 innings against the Athletics on Friday night. He struck out 13 batters without a walk and the run that he did allow came after he left the game in the 8th. He has a 5.86 ERA this season and will face the Orioles in Baltimore on May 31.

Fantasy Impact:

Tanaka's owners have to be pulling their hair, as Tanaka had, arguably, the best start of his career, but was outdueled by Sean Manaea of Oakland. This comes after he had allowed 14 earned runs in his last two starts (4 2/3 innings), but he does have 52 strikeouts and 15 walks in 55 1/3 innings. Current Orioles have a .684 OPS in 111 at-bats against Tanaka and he allowed three runs on six hits in five innings at Camden Yards on April 8.
