Robert Gsellman hit hard in loss to Nationals

by Nick Ritrivi | Nationals Correspondent | Fri, Jun 16th 7:58am EDT

Robert Gsellman took a huge step back on Thursday night when the Nationals belted out 11 hits, including two home runs, in five innings off of Gsellman. Gsellman allowed seven earned runs in his five innings and also walked two as the Mets went on to lose 8-3.

Fantasy Impact:

Gsellman's ERA rose to an abysmal 5.50 on the season (in 68 2/3 IP) and he now carries a 1.54 WHIP. Considered a National League ROY contender coming into the season, 2017 has been a huge disappointment for Gsellman and his owners thus far. Given the recent shoulder injury to Matt Harvey, Gsellman is not in immediate danger of losing his spot in the Mets rotation. In fact, before Thursday's shellacking, Gsellman had strung together four solid starts in a row, so owners should remain patient and not rush to cut him in deeper leagues, although they may wish to bench him until he gets back on track. He will next face the Dodgers in LA next week.
