Masahiro Tanaka

Masahiro Tanaka is a mystery

by Chris Zolli | Sun, Jun 18th 6:58am EDT

Masahiro Tanaka allowed five runs on eight hits in four innings against the Athletics on Saturday. He struck out 10 and walked one, allowing five runs or more for the third time in four starts. Tanaka is 5-7 with a 6.34 ERA and will face the Rangers on June 23 in New York.

Fantasy Impact:

Tanaka has faced the Athletics in two starts this season (11 1/3 innings) and has 23 strikeouts against one walk; that is the positive news, as he allowed three home runs to Oakland in this start after allowing just one earned run in 7 1/3 innings against the Athletics on May 26. He has now allowed 21 home runs, tied with Los Angeles' Ricky Nolasco for the AL lead, and has not won since May 8 (0-6 in that time span). Current Rangers have a 1.156 OPS against Tanaka in 62 career at-bats, led by Mike Napoli, who is 7-for-13 with two home runs and three doubles.
