Jose Pirela proving he belongs

by Jeff Latka | Thu, Jun 22nd 9:45am EDT

Padres second baseman Jose Pirela went 2-for-5 with an RBI and two stolen bases Wednesday against the Cubs.

Fantasy Impact:

Stepping in for the injured Yangervis Solarte at second base, the versatile Pirela boosted his average to .351 and stole third base twice in yet another impressive showing. The 27-year-old has hit leadoff in each of his past 12 starts, and at this rate the return of Manuel Margot might not shake him from the spot. Having also hit .331 with 13 home runs and eight steals for Triple-A El Paso this season, Pirela is worth adding in most 12-team leagues.
