Cole Hamels throws 81 pitches in rehab start Wednesday

by Mike Maher | Thu, Jun 22nd 1:19pm EDT

Cole Hamels threw 81 pitches over 5 2/3 innings in a rehab start for Double-A Frisco on Wednesday, according to Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. He only allowed one run and, assuming a bullpen session over the weekend goes well, he could return and start for the Rangers early next week. (Jeff Wilson on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact:

Hamels had a 3.03 ERA in five starts before going down with an oblique injury, and he pitched to a 3.32 ERA in 32 starts last season. His real value for most formats is what is usually a K/9 of around nine or higher, which goes a long way in helping strikeout totals.
