Julio Urias to miss 12-14 months with shoulder surgery

by Mike Maher | Sat, Jun 24th 8:17am EDT

Julio Urias needs anterior capsule surgery and is expected to miss the next 12-14 months. Urias is scheduled to have his left anterior capsule repaired Tuesday by Dr. Neal ElAttrache, the Dodgers' head physician. Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman said this injury is typically associated with wear and tear on the shoulder, and the Dodgers could not find an example of another pitching suffering that type of acute injury at such a young age. Fantasy Impact:

Urias went to have his shoulder examined late in the week, and this is the worst case scenario. Anterior capsule surgery is major shoulder surgery, as evidenced by the long recovery timeline. He will miss the remainder of this season and the first half of next season, at the very least. Urias is still just 20 years-old and, as long as he can fully recover from this surgery, has a long and bright career ahead of him, but it will be at least a full year before we see him pick up a baseball in a major league game.
