Austin Barnes goes hitless with two strikeouts

Austin Barnes batted 0-for-3 with two strikeouts in the Dodgers' 4-0 win over the Angels on Tuesday.

Fantasy Impact:

Barnes is still batting an impressive .278/.398/.478 on the season in 108 plate appearances, and his surprising start on Tuesday may be indicative of an increased role going forward. Until recently, the Dodgers' backup catcher has only started against left-handed pitchers or when starter Yasmani Grandal clearly needed a breather, but Tuesday marked Barnes's fourth start in the past six games, including one at second base. A backup catcher -- even a great one -- is not of much use in most fantasy formats, but those in deeper leagues should keep Barnes in mind, especially in Grandal were ever to miss time with an injury. In addition to a decent bat, Barnes possesses rare speed for the position, having stolen 18 bases in 21 attempts in just 85 games at Triple-AAA in 2016 and going a perfect 4-for-4 on steals so far this season.
