Cole Hamels has rough outing Thursday night

by Steve Painter | Thu, Jul 20th 11:26pm EDT

Cole Hamels pitched 5 1/3 innings against the Orioles Thursday night, allowing nine hits, seven runs (all earned), and two walks while recording three strikeouts in a 9-7 losing effort. Of note were the three home runs allowed by Hamels. The loss gives him a 4-1 record on the year and he carries a 3.78 ERA thus far. He will pitch again Tuesday against Dan Straily and the Marlins in Arlington.

Fantasy Impact:

Any time a pitcher has an outing like this the level of concern rises but Hamels is prone to slip-up's and he has been pitching quite well since returning from an oblique injury. So, while the raised eyebrows should be evident, a widespread alarm would be a bit too reactive at this point.
