A.J. Ramos dealt to the Mets

by Nick Ritrivi | Fri, Jul 28th 11:03pm EDT

A.J. Ramos was dealt to the Mets on Friday night in a quite surprising trade. The Mets, who are sellers, bought in on Ramos who is 2-4 this season with 20 saves, a 3.63 ERA and 47K's in 39 2/3 innings of work. The Marlins pick up two minor leaguers from the Mets in the deal. Fantasy Impact:

Ramos is under control through 2018, so this was a move made by the Mets to bolster a beleaguered bullpen for next season. This also signifies that the Mets may be close to trading Addison Reed who has been the fill-in-closer for Jeurys Familia for most of 2017. Once Reed is dealt, Ramos should slot in as closer until Familia returns sometime in late August. Ramos may be relegated to a set-up role in 2018, which will obviously depreciate his fantasy value. On the flip side of the deal, in all likelihood, Kyle Barraclough should take over as Miami's closer when he returns from the 10-day DL. As such, owners in need of saves should target Barraclough on the waiver wire as a speculative add.
