Bryce Harper out indefinitely with bone bruise; no ligament damage

by Mike Maher | Phillies Correspondent | Sun, Aug 13th 11:33am EDT

Bryce Harper has a significant bone bruise in his knee but no ligament or tendon tears, the team announced Sunday. The Nationals are hopeful he can return this season but do not currently have a timetable for his return. (Dan Kolko on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact:

Everyone feared the worst when Harper slipped on first base and fell awkwardly. After writhing in pain on the ground and holding his left knee, he had to be helped off the field. A bone bruise diagnosis is surprising considering this appeared to be a non-contact injury, but it appears that Harper and the Nationals have dodged a bullet. He should be placed on the disabled list Sunday, and more information about his recovery timetable should be known in the near future.
