Matt Boyd just one out away from no-hitter

by Brad Richter | Mon, Sep 18th 10:29am EDT

Matt Boyd (6-10) took a no-hitter into the ninth inning before Tim Anderson hit a two-out double to spoil the no-hit bid. Boyd tired the next batter to finish with a one-hit shutout. He struck out five White Sox and walked one in the Tigers' 12-0 rout.

Fantasy Impact:

Boyd tossed an absolute gem on Sunday against the White Sox in by far the best performance of his career. He has pitched well through four September starts posting a 2.16 ERA. Boyd will have a tougher task in his next start on Friday against the Twins who are fighting for a playoff spot. He will try to continue to make his case for a spot in the Tigers' rotation next season but should still be avoided for fantasy expect for very deep leagues.
