Steven Matz with six solid innings on Monday against Houston

In one of his final tune-ups before the start of the regular season, Steven Matz went six innings against the Astros on Monday, allowing just two earned runs while striking out nine. He walked no one and allowed only five hits.

Fantasy Impact:

With the non-pitching hand injury to Jason Vargas, this solid start by Matz may have solidified him a spot in the Mets' rotation, even if just for a brief period before Vargas returns. Matz holds some sleeper value in 2018 if he can put the consistent health issues he's endured behind him. With the back end of the Mets' rotation in flux, a strong start to the season by Matz could cement as permanent what would initially be a likely interim spot in the Mets' rotation. Deeper league owners looking for upside could do worse than the oft injured Matz.
