Jose Bautista agrees to minor league deal with Braves

Jose Bautista has agreed to a minor league deal with the Atlanta Braves, according to Jon Heyman on Twitter. Heyman adds that the deal includes $1 million if Bautista joins the team in the majors, plus incentives, and that the thought is he could potentially play third base for them. Fantasy Impact:

Bautista had been reportedly considering retirement after batting .203 in 2017 and sitting in free agency all offseason (along with many other high profile free agents). Now, it appears he will get one final shot to show he can still contribute. While he hit 23 home runs in 2017 and 22 in 2016, he swatted 40 as recently as 2015. After going unsigned for the entire offseason and missing all of spring training, Bautista will likely need at least a few weeks of extended spring training and/or a minor league assignment before being ready to join the big league club. Grab and stash him in leagues where you can afford the extra roster spot, but know that it could be several weeks before he is called up to the Braves, if he ever is.
