Matt Harvey shellacked by Braves in Mets’ loss

by Nick Ritrivi | Fri, Apr 20th 6:57am EDT

Matt Harvey allowed six earned runs and eight hits in six innings of work in the Mets’ 12-4 loss to the Braves on Thursday. He walked one and struck out four as his record fell to 0-2 on the season, and his ERA ballooned to 6.00 and WHIP rose to 1.43. Following the game, the Mets’ Mickey Callaway was non-committal as to whether Harvey would remain in the rotation going forward.

Fantasy Impact:

Since his first start of the season, Harvey has regressed back to his 2017 form in which he finished his injury-shortened season with a 6.70 ERA and 1.69 WHIP in 92 2/3 innings. At this point he, quite simply, is no longer a viable fantasy SP option for those owners holding on to him strictly based on name recognition. Those owners reluctant to drop him this early in the season based on his past performance and success would, at the very least, be best served keeping him inactive until he rights the ship and gets on a little bit of a roll, if and when that happens. If he is moved to the pen, his fantasy value takes an even bigger hit, notwithstanding his current struggles.
