Jason Vargas is set to make his Mets debut Saturday in San Diego against the Padres, according to Anthony DiComo of MLB.com. (Anthony DiComo on Twitter)

Vargas will slot in as New York's fifth starter in place of the struggling Matt Harvey, who was recently demoted to the bullpen. The journeyman left-hander signed with the Mets this past offseason after four seasons with the Kansas City Royals, but his debut has been delayed until now due to a broken bone in his glove hand.
