Madison Bumgarner could make big-league return Friday

by Clinton H. | Mon, May 28th 12:30am EDT

Madison Bumgarner may have pitched his way into an earlier return to the Giants after dominating in his first Triple-A rehab game Saturday. Manager Bruce Bochy admitted that the club will reassess their plans on bringing their All-Star back sooner than later despite an initial rehab plan of three starts in the minors. It's possible he'll be activated to face the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday. (The Mercury News)

Fantasy Impact:

It's the moment fantasy owners have been waiting for as Bumgarner finally appears to be ready after two unlucky injuries derailed his 2017-18 season and the start of his 2018-19 campaign. If spring training was any indication, the shoulder injury from the dirt bike accident last year is in the rear view while his most recent rehab outing from a broken pinkie appears to show he's recovered from that as well. The team should provide more details on if he'll be activated early in the week. If your league locks lineups at the start of the week, it'd be a gamble, but the game is in pitcher-friendly AT&T Park and the Phillies rank third to last in wOBA (.258) when playing on the road against LHP. If he's not activated this week, it appears he won't require the full three-game rehab plan that was initially put in place.
