Justin Verlander improved to 9-2 on Thursday in Oakland, striking out nine over seven innings of three-run ball.

Verlander allowed five hits and walked none as the Astros beat the A's 7-3. It was homers that got to the 35-year-old ace in this one, as both Khris Davis and Matt Olson took him yard. Verlander now owns a 1.61 ERA, a 0.76 WHIP, and 120 strikeouts in 100 1/3 innings this year. He gets the Rays next in a plus matchup.
