Goold notes that St. Louis needs a middle of the order bat, ideally one who plays a corner infield position like Goldschmidt or Josh Donaldson. Goldschmidt has one year left on his contract so the Cardinals could acquire him for 2019 and then try to convince him to stay. It's unclear how serious Arizona is about trading their star slugger, but there will certainly be heavy interest if they shop him.
