The Red Sox appear unlikely to re-sign Craig Kimbrel. In a recent interview with Bob Nightengale, Red Sox president Dave Dombrowski was quoted as saying “Craig did a great job for us, he’s a Hall of Fame reliever, but we have not anticipated having a large expenditure for a closer.’’ (USA Today)

Fantasy Impact:

The Red Sox seem to be just fine going into the 2019 season with a closer by committee approach. Kimbrel struggled in the second half of last season with only 12 saves and a 4.57 ERA, so maybe the team feels Kimbrel is starting to break down. If this is the case, the closer battle will be one to monitor this spring. Matt Barnes, Heath Embree, and Ryan Brasier would be the names to keep an eye on.
