Xander Bogaerts, Red Sox didn’t get far on extension talks

Evan Drellich of NBC Sports Boston reports Xander Bogaerts and the Red Sox discussed an extension this off-season but the two sides never got close to a deal. (NBC Sports Boston)
Fantasy Impact:
Bogaerts, who is a free agent after 2019, is represent by Scott Boras so it’s not surprising a deal didn’t get done. Boras likely wants to see what Manny Machado gets in free agency and then use Bogaerts as a comp. Bogaerts had a really good season in 2018, hitting .288 with 23 homers and a .360 OBP. It looks as if he’ll enter free agency following the season.
