Acee notes San Diego was not one of the original "mystery teams" that was in on Machado, but they became a player once it became apparent the cost wouldn't be astronomical. The Padres have one of the best farm systems in baseball, and adding a player of Machado's caliber would certainly expedite their path to contention.
