Pedro Alvarez No. 1 option at first base

by Christopher Arndt | Wed, Dec 31st 6:00pm EST

According to an MLB.com article, Pedro Alvarez will permanently make the switch from third to first base in 2015. Manager Clint Hurdle declared Alvarez to be their primary option going into next season. (MLB.com)

Fantasy Impact:

Pedro Alvarez will look to have a bounce back year in 2015 after playing in just 122 games last season. His production dipped all around, posting just 18 home runs while driving in 56. Although he is not known as an injury-prone player, Alvarez will take less strain on his body by playing first base and this could lead to a return to form, most notably in 2012-13 when he hit at least 30 home runs and drove in at least 85 for the Pirates. This move is more commonly used to transition catchers (see Buster Posey or Joe Mauer) but Alvarez can certainly benefit from this move both offensively and defensively.
