Luis Severino agrees to four-year, $40 million deal with Yankees

The Yankees and Luis Severino have reportedly agreed to a four-year, $40 million contract extension that includes a fifth-year club option. (Jeff Passan on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact:

Severino was under team control for all four years of the deal, so in essence, all this does is give Severino a guaranteed paycheck rather than taking his chances with arbitration. But the fifth-year option, if the Yankees exercised it, would buy out the first year of Severino's free agency. Either way, Severino will be with the Yankees for several more years, and should continue to be one of the top pitchers in baseball.
