Third baseman Nolan Arenado and the Colorado Rockies are finalizing an eight-year, contract extension worth more than $255M, according to MLB insider Jeff Passan. The deal is believed to include an opt-out provision after three years. (Jeff Passan on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact:

Arenado was entering this season making $26M in his last year of arbitration and was set to be a free agent after at the end of the year. His eight-year extension runs through 2026 and is reportedly the largest per-year salary of any position player. It was rumored earlier in the day that an opt-out provision could be the sticking point in some of the Bryce Harper negotiations, and it is now possible that Arenado's extension affects those discussions, as well.
