Matt Carpenter homers and singles Thursday

by Elliott Baas | Cardinals Correspondent | Fri, Mar 1st 12:55am EST

Matt Carpenter went 2-for-2 with a single and a solo home run in the Cardinals' 3-2 spring loss to the Mets on Thursday.

Fantasy Impact:

Carpenter collected his first two hits of the spring in this one, though he's only had six at bats thus far. He is coming off a career year in 2018, posting 36 home runs, a .266 ISO, and an .897 OPS, all the best of his career. While his .535 xSLG and 13.4% barrel rate suggest Carpenter's performance was legitimate, don't bank on another 19.1% HR/FB ratio to carry his home run totals. Still, he's a safe bet for 25-30 bombs along with a great OBP. Carpenter is a solid value with a current consensus ADP of 67. He's better in points and OBP formats compared to traditional 5x5 with batting average.
