Fantasy Impact:

This doesn't mean much for his fantasy value, but it does show that the Cubs consider Lester their best starting pitcher, for what that's worth. Lester's skills have been on a downward trend for the last few seasons, and 2019 could be the year that things finally blow up for the 35-year-old. Lester's 2.33 K/BB ratio was his worst since 2008 and his 4.57 SIERA was the worst he's ever posted as a full time starter. Furthermore, his fastball velocity fell to a career low 91.5 MPH and his swinging strike rate plummeted to a meager 8.5%. Unfortunately, the writing is on the wall for the decorated lefty, and Lester is a dangerous pick even at his current FantasyPros consensus ADP of 163.
