Jimmy Nelson tosses first inning of the spring Monday

by Elliott Baas | Tue, Mar 12th 1:34am EDT

Jimmy Nelson allowed two earned runs in one inning of work in the Brewers' 8-5 spring win over the White Sox on Monday. He gave up four hits, no walks, and struck out three.

Fantasy Impact:

The results aren't too important here; just the fact that Nelson took the mound and completed an inning after last throwing a pitch in game in 2017 is remarkable itself. He struck out the side in this one, but also allowed two runs and served up a solo homer in his inning. The last time Nelson pitched he carved up opposing batters to the tune of a 3.49 ERA, 3.05 FIP, and 10.21 K/9. It's hard to say whether Nelson can repeat that after suffering a serious injury and having a long lay off, but as a late round flier Nelson could provide massive upside.
