Mookie Betts in no hurry to sign a contract extension despite recent deals

by Mike Maher | Dodgers Correspondent | Wed, Mar 20th 9:52pm EDT

Despite the recent contracts signed by fellow MLB superstars Mike Trout, Bryce Harper, Manny Machado, Nolan Arenado, and Alex Bregman, Red Sox outfielder Mookie Betts does not believe he will sign a contract extension with Boston before he is set to become a free agent after the 2020 season. Fantasy Impact:

While Betts did not indicate that he is unhappy in Boston or that he intends to leave, he did mention that he is not in any hurry to sign a contract extension and is interested in a deal that he believes to be fair. This could, of course, be nothing more than posturing by Betts and his agents, but at this point, he seems content to play the 2019 season for the $20 million salary he secured during arbitration negotiations, play the 2020 season for slightly more than that, and then head into free agency looking for a long-term deal.
