Sonny Gray struggles in Reds debut Sunday

by Elliott Baas | Cardinals Correspondent | Sun, Mar 31st 5:25pm EDT

Sonny Gray allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits in 2.2 innings in the Reds' 5-0 loss to the Pirates on Sunday. He walked four and struck out zero. Gray fell to 0-1 after this start.

Fantasy Impact:

Gray couldn't find the strike zone in this one, as he walked four Pirates, including the embarrassing feat of walking opposing pitcher Trevor Williams with the bases loaded to score a run. It also took Gray 72 pitches to get eight outs, and only 35 of those pitches went for strikes. Many were hoping for a bounce back after Gray posted a 4.90 ERA with the Yankees last season, and those who believe in Gray should exercise patience with the 29-year-old righty. Gray is probably best left on the bench next time out, which is Thursday in Pittsburgh against these same Pirates.
