Tyler Mahle fires six scoreless innings in no decision Thursday

by Elliott Baas | Rangers Correspondent | Fri, Apr 5th 12:27am EDT

Tyler Mahle allowed five hits and no runs over six innings in the Reds' 2-0 loss to the Pirates on Thursday. He struck out five and walked zero.

Fantasy Impact:

Mahle certainly pitched well enough for the win, but his offense and bullpen couldn't put it together in this one. Still, this was an encouraging start for Mahle, especially since he walked zero batters. He had a 10.5% walk rate last year, and Mahle hadn't had a zero-walk start since May 5, 2018. Even after this start Mahle will be hard to trust, especially at home. He allowed 1.77 HR/9 and had a 5.25 FIP in 2018. In mixed leagues owners should take more of a wait-and-see approach with Mahle, who will face the Dodgers in Los Angeles next time out on Tuesday.
