Matt Olson gets cast off and begins taking grounders

Athletics first baseman Matt Olson had the soft cast and stitches removed from his surgically-repaired right hand earlier this week, and he has been taking grounders and throws at first base. (Ben Ross on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact:

Olson is still weeks away from going on any kind of minor league rehab stint, but he is seemingly progressing well and has not suffered any setbacks. As a left-handed hitter, Olson's right hand is his dominant hand on the bat, so he will need to be sure that the hand is fully healed and his strength is regained before he can resume playing. Look for an update on his status in the coming weeks, but fantasy owners can expect to be without Olson for another month.
