Dexter Fowler

Cubs acquire Dexter Fowler

by Dale Redman | Mon, Jan 19th 3:36pm EST

The Chicago Cubs have acquired outfielder Dexter Fowler from the Houston Astros. The Cubs sent infielder Luis Valbuena and starting pitcher Dan Straily to the Astros for Fowler. Fowler will assume the leadoff spot and be the Cubs everyday centerfielder. He hit .276 with a .375 on-base percentage for Houston in 2014. (Chicago Tribune)

Fantasy Impact:

Fowler will be an immediate upgrade for the Cubs at the leadoff spot in their lineup. With a career .366 on-base percentage and an average of over 15 steals per year, Fowler fits the prototype of a leadoff hitter the Cubs had been looking for. Fowler will get plenty of opportunities to score as the Cubs have a formidable lineup behind him. With Valbuena gone, third base opens up for the eventual promotion of super prospect Kris Bryant.
