Kyle Hendricks hammered for seven runs in loss Friday

by Elliott Baas | Cubs Correspondent | Sat, Apr 27th 10:34am EDT

Kyle Hendricks allowed seven runs on ten hits over five innings in the Cubs' 8-3 loss to the Diamondbacks on Friday. He walked one and struck out three while falling to 1-4.

Fantasy Impact:

This is a surprising result, since Hendricks faced this same lineup a week ago and fired seven scoreless innings with 11 strikeouts. Hendricks now has a ghastly 5.33 ERA on the season, but a 3.0 K/BB ratio and 3.70 FIP suggest he's pitched better than his ERA. One concerning trend with Hendricks is a 9% increase in hard contact. Once his calling card, Hendricks is now below average in hard hit rate allowed. If he can't induce soft contact Hendricks can't get by on raw stuff. He's a pitcher owners should monitor closely. His next start comes Friday vs. St. Louis.
