Miles Mikolas strikes out nine in loss Friday

by Elliott Baas | Cardinals Correspondent | Sat, May 25th 11:20am EDT

Miles Mikolas allowed three runs on seven hits over seven innings in the Cardinals' 5-2 loss to the Braves on Friday. He walked none and struck out nine while falling to 4-5.

Fantasy Impact:

The long ball continues to plague Mikolas, who served up two taters in this one. Most of Mikolas' underlying numbers look the same compared to last season, except for two crucial ones. He has a 20% HR/FB rate, and an 88 MPH average exit velocity against. Mikolas was one of the best at inducing soft contact last season, and he hasn't been able to replicate those results. That has led to an increased home run rate, which is why his ERA sits at a bloated 4.76. He could certainly turn things around, but don't expect him to come near that 2.83 ERA he had a year ago. His next start comes Thursday at Philadelphia.
