Mets starter Jason Vargas tossed a five-hit shutout to defeat the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday, striking out eight while walking just one. The win brings him to 2-3 on the season.
Fantasy Impact:
While he had not been pitching deep into games through much of the first two months of the season, Vargas followed up seven innings of one-run ball against the Dodgers with Wednesday’s shutout of the Giants. His ERA is now down to 3.57 after sitting at 5.22 just two starts ago, which is an indication of just how well he has been pitching recently. Despite the recent success, it would probably be wise to avoid him for his next start against the Yankees in New York.
