Casey Janssen has a huge opportunity with the Nationals

Casey Janssen signed a one-year, five million dollar contract with the Washington Nationals on Wednesday. He will challenge for the closing job in the nation's capital. (Twitter)
Fantasy Impact:
This could be a huge move for fantasy RPs, as the Nationals seem to be the surest bet for 95 or more wins and Janssen has been successful in the past with the Blue Jays. He struggled mightly after July last year, posting a 5.79 ERA in the last two months of the season and an .812 OPS allowed, but had a 2.46 ERA from 2011-2013 and has 81 saves over the past three seasons. Janssen saw his walk rate drop from 2.2 in 2013 to 1.4 in 2014, but also has seen his K/9 drop from 9.5 in 2012 to 5.5 in 2014. The fact remains that if Janssen is able to win the closer's job over Drew Storen, there is a good chance that he will have in excess of 35 saves. Over the past four seasons, the Nationals have had a closer with 35 or more saves in each season except 2014, when Rafael Soriano's 32 saves were augmented by Storen's 11. There is potential for Janssen to be as high as a top-5 RP if gains the prestigous Nationals' closer role.
