Stephen Piscotty has melanoma removed

Piscotty underwent successful surgery to have a melanoma removed from his right ear, the team announced Friday. (Oakland Athletics on Twitter)

Scary news for Piscotty, but doctors were able to remove the melanoma entirely and Piscotty is expected to return to the team "within the week." The fifth-year pro is batting .250 with eight home runs and 29 RBIs over 288 plate appearances.
