Vince Velasquez allows four earned runs as opener Sunday

by Mike Maher | Sun, Jun 16th 10:26pm EDT

Phillies pitcher Vince Velasquez served as an opener on Sunday against the Atlanta Braves, allowing four earned runs on four hits and no walks while striking out four over 2 1/3 innings to take the loss. The loss drops him to 2-4 on the season.

Fantasy Impact:

Velasquez no longer has a spot in the Philadelphia rotation, and it appears that manager Gabe Kapler is trying to find him a role in the bullpen. While he served in a few late-inning spots recently and had some success, he did not fare as well as an opener on Sunday. Given the uncertainty surrounding his role for the rest of the season, Velasquez does not have much value outside of deeper formats with large benches.
