Zack Wheeler strikes out eight in quality start Tuesday

Mets starter Zack Wheeler allowed two earned runs on five hits and one walk while striking out eight over 6 1/3 innings in a no-decision against the New York Yankees on Tuesday.

Wheeler and the Mets snapped the Yankees’ MLB-record streak of 31 straight games with at least one home run on Tuesday, with the Mets also winning the game. Wheeler has a 4.42 ERA on the season but has now thrown three consecutive quality starts while continuing to pitch deep into games. He is scheduled to take on the Phillies at home in what will be his last start before the All-Star break.
