Rosenthal writes the team has known about this but was hoping surgery could wait until after the season. However, Arrieta now has a 6.63 ERA in his past seven starts and the issue doesn’t appear to be going away. The 33-year-old is going to rest over the All-Star break while the Phillies come up with a plan for how to handle the issue, but surgery is likely.
