In the seventh inning of Sunday's game against the Cubs, Francisco Mejia sent a solo shot over the right field wall to put the Padres up 2-1. He finished the day 2-for-3 with two runs and a walk.

Mejia and fellow backstop, Austin Hedges, have both offered underwhelming hitting performances, leading to a timeshare. If Mejia can build on this solid game, he may earn the starting role.
