Nationals starter Max Scherzer returned from the injured list on Thursday and allowed one run over four innings while throwing 71 pitches, and he was able to complete his normal post-start routine on Friday without any issues or setbacks. Still, Scherzer admits that he is "not out of the woods yet" in regards to his back injury and still needs to work to get back to his usually levels of intensity and endurance. (WashingtonPost.com)
This sounds like Scherzer is just remaining cautious, but it was at least a little telling that he is not yet able to throw with maximum effort. Look for him to stretch things out a bit more in his next start, at which point it might become clearer just how well he is progressing in his recovery from this latest back injury.
