Jaime Garcia is healthy entering spring training

Last season, SP Jaime Garcia started in just 7 games before his season was brought to an end by shoulder surgery due to thoracic outlet syndrome. The Cardinals medical staff has cleared him to resume full activity entering spring training, but it remains unclear where Garcia fits into the Cardinals' plans. However, Garcia has made it publicly known that he is a "starting pitcher" regardless of what the front office believes his role will be in 2015. (STLToday)

Garcia has a poor track record for staying healthy, to say the least. In 2008, he underwent Tommy John surgery after just 2 innings in the major leagues. He excelled in the starting rotation from 2009-2011, but in 2012, he was shutdown, mid-season, due to shoulder discomfort. In 2013 he started 9 games before undergoing surgery on his torn labrum. In 7 starts in 2014, Garcia was 3-1 with a 4.12 ERA in 43.2 innings. Despite Garcia's plans to rejoin the rotation this year, Cardinals GM, John Mozeliak, has said that he doesn't believe that Jaime is ready to pitch at the major league level.
