Jon Jay not ready for the start of Spring Training

by Drew Bradley | Mon, Mar 2nd 2:40pm EST

During the off season, St. Louis Cardinals CF, Jon Jay, elected to undergo surgery on his left wrist to repair an injury he suffered in June, but played through the rest of the year. Jay is gradually resuming baseball activities and expects to be ready before the team opens its season against the Cubs on April 5th. (STLToday)

Fantasy Impact:

Plan for Jay to be the starting CF on Opening Day. It is hard to say exactly how the Cardinals will manage the playing time between Matt Holliday, Jon Jay, Randal Grichuk, and Peter Bourjos, but Matheny is loyal to a fault and Jay will almost certainly get the majority of ABs in CF to start the season. Holliday just turned 35 and will likely start to see routine days off in order to prolong his career and prevent injury, but there will be a stiff competition for ABs in a crowded Cardinals outfield. If Jay struggles out of the gate, he could lose playing time fairly quickly.
