Brett Gardner was 1-3 with a single against the Phillies, adding to his punchless spring.
Fantasy Impact:
The Yankees race for leadoff hitter seems to be over, as Jacoby Ellsbury has hit leadoff in each game that he and Gardner have played together. Gardner has struggled as the second hitter in the lineup during his career, posting only a .707 OPS in 142 career plate appearances. He is better suited as the leadoff hitter or at the bottom of the lineup, he has a career OPS of .862 as the seventh hitter and .892 as the eighth hitter, and the Yankees need to do something to help Gardner heat up.
